Volunteers play an important role as partners in the Wichita Falls Public Library's mission to provide patrons with knowledge and information that support lifelong learning. Working under the supervision of Library or Friends of the Library staff, volunteers provide valuable services for patrons and assist with special projects and community events. Volunteers with a variety of interests and skills work as a team devoted to enriching the services of the Library. Many volunteers are needed to man the Friends of the Library bookstore.
Volunteers must be at least 16 years old and are selected based upon their qualifications and the needs of the Library at any given time. While we appreciate every person who wishes to volunteer at the Library, we are not able to accept every volunteer who expresses an interest in the Library. Each volunteer is assigned an area of responsibility. Assignments can be long or short-term. Special consideration will be given to persons completing a volunteer program through school, scouts, churches, or other civic groups. We do not accept community service workers from the courts who are attempting to have fines discharged. Volunteers will be required to undergo a background check.
Because we rely on our volunteers to enable us to provide the best service possible to the community, we ask that they commit to an agreed upon schedule and give reasonable notice if they are unable to report to work.
